40th Road Safety Awareness Session Promotes Safer Roads Among Schoolchildren in Chilaw

Road Safety

The 40th edition of the Road Safety Awareness Session under the Clean Sri Lanka national initiative was successfully held at Ananda National College, Chilaw, on October 09, 2025, marking another milestone in the country’s ongoing mission to promote safe road practices among schoolchildren.

The event was jointly organized by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the Sri Lanka Police, and the Independent Television Network (ITN) a partnership that continues to drive positive behavioral change and foster a culture of road responsibility among young citizens.

Conducted under the theme “Take Care – Let’s Be Safe on the Road,” the program focused on enhancing students’ understanding of road ethics, traffic regulations, accident prevention, and responsible pedestrian behavior. The sessions featured lively demonstrations and interactive discussions that encouraged active participation and practical learning experiences for the students.

Addressing the participants, representatives from the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat emphasized that promoting road safety is not only a legal duty but also a fundamental moral responsibility of every citizen. They urged students to act as ambassadors for road discipline within their communities. Officers from the Sri Lanka Police highlighted key safety measures such as wearing helmets, observing traffic signals, and using pedestrian crossings correctly.

The Clean Sri Lanka initiative continues to integrate social responsibility, discipline, and civic ethics into its educational campaigns, aligning with its broader vision of fostering a safer, cleaner, and ethically driven society.

The session concluded with a strong commitment from both students and educators to uphold road safety rules and help reduce road accidents—creating a generation that takes pride in awareness, responsibility, and care on the road.
