The 42nd edition of the Road Safety Awareness Session under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative was successfully held at Polonnaruwa Royal College on October 15, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing national campaign aimed at inculcating safe road practices among schoolchildren. This session is part of the ambitious plan to conduct road safety awareness programs across 100 schools islandwide.
Jointly organized by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, Sri Lanka Police, Ministry of Education, and the Independent Television Network (ITN), the event strengthened the collaborative effort of key national institutions dedicated to fostering road discipline and saving young lives.
The awareness session, conducted under the theme “Take Care – Let’s Be Safe on the Road,” focused on educating schoolchildren about essential road ethics, traffic regulations, accident prevention, and responsible pedestrian behavior. Through engaging demonstrations and interactive discussions, students were encouraged to understand the critical importance of alertness and compliance with traffic rules during their daily commutes.
Representatives from the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat highlighted that road safety is not merely a legal requirement but a shared moral responsibility of every citizen. Officers from the Sri Lanka Police provided practical guidance on the importance of wearing helmets, using pedestrian crossings properly, and following traffic signals diligently.
Continuing its efforts, the Clean Sri Lanka national initiative integrates social responsibility, discipline, and ethical conduct in its broader mission to nurture a safer and more civic-minded generation.
This program reinforces the commitment to creating a culture of road safety awareness among the youth, guiding them to become responsible and conscientious road users in the future.
