54th Edition of "Take Care – Surakemu Magathota" Road Safety Awareness Programme Successfully Held in Ampara

Take Care Road Safety Programme

The 54th edition of the "Take Care – Surakemu Magathota" road safety awareness programme was conducted on 4th November 2025 at Ampara D.S. Senanayaka National School. This initiative, jointly organised by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, Sri Lanka Police, Independent Television Network (ITN), and the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training, focused specifically on school children to enhance their awareness of road safety, road rules, and road ethics.

As part of the nationwide Clean Sri Lanka initiative, 100 such road safety programmes are planned to be conducted throughout 2025, aiming to instil a culture of safe and responsible road use among the younger generation. The collaboration between key stakeholders ensures a comprehensive approach to educating schoolchildren about the importance of road discipline.

During the programme, Sri Lanka Police conducted live road safety demonstrations, helping students understand practical aspects of road safety including pedestrian rules, safe crossing techniques, and the dangers of reckless behavior on the roads. These interactive sessions were designed to create lasting awareness and empower children to become conscientious road users and advocates for safety within their communities.

The Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat emphasises that road safety is a critical public health priority and views these education programmes as essential elements in reducing road accidents and fatalities in Sri Lanka. The ongoing series of programmes is reflective of the government's commitment to fostering a safer, more disciplined society through sustained awareness and behavioural change campaigns starting at the school level.

This successful event in Ampara marks another important step forward in this comprehensive initiative, reinforcing the message that road safety is everyone's responsibility and a shared societal goal.
