Welcome to Clean Sri Lanka

A revival to Northern Province Schools through the ‘Clean School’ Project!

The 'Clean School' project, implemented under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme and organized on 09th July in Jaffna, has become a significant platform for the well-being of schoolchildren in the Northern Province. The primary objective of the project is to control the spread of Dengue and Chikungunya while creating a healthier and more convenient school environment for learning.

There are a total of 974 Government schools in the Northern Province. Among them, 24 are national schools while 950 are provincial schools. These schools collectively educate 207,568 students and are staffed by 18,396 teachers and principals. The ‘Clean School’ programme aims to ensure the right of this large student population to do their education in a clean and safe environment.

The project has also directly benefited 782 lay students and buddhist monks together studying in five pirivenas (Buddhist monastic schools) in the Northern Province. A clean environment is essential for the physical and mental well-being of both samanera monks and lay students doing their education in pirivenas.

By prioritizing the eradication of dengue and other related diseases, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in school premises, this project significantly contributes to increasing student attendance and improving their academic performance. The ‘Clean School’ project can be considered a vital step toward a healthier future for the children of the Northern Province.
