Clean Sri Lanka Expands Mental Health Training with Kaegalle Workshop Amid Cyclone Dittwa Recovery

Ditwah Kegalle TOT

A two-day residential workshop aimed at training district level trainers for the "Beyond Recovery" mission is underway at the Sanasa Campus in Kaegalle. Launched under the government's flagship "Clean Sri Lanka" program, the initiative focuses on promoting mental health support for communities devastated by Cyclone "Dittwa."

The event, running from January 27 to 28, marks an expansion of a successful pilot held on January 16 in Badulla District. Jointly organized by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat and the Kaegalle District Secretariat, it brings together experts including psychiatrists, physicians, and artists to deliver specialized training.

At the heart of the workshop is equipping public officers with practical skills to support disaster-affected individuals sheltered in "Suraksha" safe centers. Participants are categorized by age groups up to 12 years, 12-18 years, and over 18 years to ensure tailored mental health interventions that address the unique psychological needs arising from the cyclone's impact.

This program underscores the "Clean Sri Lanka" commitment to holistic recovery, blending environmental restoration with community well being in the face of natural disasters.
