The 'Clean Sri Lanka' national flagship program launched the first phase of its two day residential training program for district level trainers on 26th December at the Pilimatalawa Rural Development Training and Research Institute. This initiative, part of the 'Beyond Recovery' mission, targets mental health promotion in communities devastated by the Ditwah cyclone.
The opening ceremony drew key dignitaries, including Directors from the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat and Assistant District Secretary Ms. Indumini Manikdivela, who represented Kandy District Secretary. Government officers from all Divisional Secretariat divisions in the Kandy region also attended, underscoring the program's commitment to grassroots recovery efforts.
Designed for Kandy District Government officers, the training blends lectures and hands-on activities led by expert resource teams. These include psychiatrists, medical professionals, community officers, and artists, delivering essential skills for mental health support tailored to vulnerable groups.
Participants gain practical knowledge to assist children up to age 12, youth aged 12-18, and adults over 18, particularly those in safety centers. Sessions emphasize counseling techniques, emotional resilience building, and community-based interventions to foster long term healing post cyclone.
This training marks a vital step in the 'Beyond Recovery' mission, aligning with Clean Sri Lanka's broader goals of environmental restoration and community well being. Officials hailed it as a model for nationwide mental health support in disaster prone areas.
