A special discussion on promoting the rights of Sri Lanka's "Mihimith" (Little People) community, social cohesion issues, and opportunities took place on November 27, 2025, at the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat. Chaired by Additional Secretary to the President Eng. S.P.C. Sugishwara, the meeting focused on advancing equal opportunities and dignity for individuals with dwarfism.
Drawing from the government's flagship initiative "Ekwa Ath Nohara" (Together, We Won't Give Up), participants addressed critical barriers faced by the community. Key topics included family excommunication due to biological conditions and the urgent need for societal integration and support systems.
Ms. Darshani Nanayakkara, Chairperson of the Little People Association of Sri Lanka (founded in 2019 to support those with achondroplasia), led representation for the community alongside association members.
Clean Sri Lanka officials included Mr. W. Harison, Additional Director General, and Mr. Kapila Senerath, Director (Social), with several other secretariat staff.
Ms. Nanayakkara highlighted cases where community members have been ostracized by families, urging the Secretariat to establish a safe house. The association committed to managing the facility through an established fund, emphasizing self reliance and community led solutions.
This engagement underscores Clean Sri Lanka's commitment to inclusive social pillars, fostering unity and empowerment for vulnerable groups across the nation.
