Community Based Drug Rehabilitation Camp Launched in Kurunegala District under Clean Sri Lanka National Programme

Aligned with the "The Country Together" national campaign and under the "Clean Sri Lanka" national program, the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board has been implementing a series of initiatives across the country themed "Committed to building a drug-free, healthy community."

As part of this effort, a 14 day community based rehabilitation camp commenced on November 17 for 45 individuals addicted to drugs from the Kurunegala district. The camp is being held at the Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Pirivena premises in Wariyapola, Kurunegala district, and will run until December 1.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Attorney-at-Law Hon. Geetha Herath, Member of Parliament for Kurunegala district, Mr. Janaka Kumarasinghe, Chairman of the Wariyapola Pradeshiya Sabha, Kurunegala District Secretary Mr. Chandana Dissanayake, divisional secretaries and a host of government officials.

Key representatives from the police force, including Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Tissa Vithanage of the Kurunegala division, as well as Mr. Janaka D. Bandara Herath, Assistant Director (Ethics) of the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, Mr. Shantha Gamage, Director (External Services), Ms. Nilani Aluthge, Assistant Director (External Services), and Mr. Udeni Ranasinghe, Assistant Director (Treatment) from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, also actively participated.

In a special gesture to support the families of voluntary participants, the Chairman and members of the Wariyapola Pradeshiya Sabha generously donated parcels containing essential items as financial contributions, enhancing the welfare of those involved in the rehabilitation program.
