Under the "From the Heart to Jaffna" program, a welfare program for the residents of Delft Island in Jaffna was conducted on 17th August at the Delft Divisional Secretariat premises.
During the event, an awareness program about the Clean Sri Lanka cinitiative was held for school students, with a lecture delivered by Ms. Saradha Manoharan, Senior Assistant Secretary from the Presidential Secretariat. Bicycles tyres and school supplies were distributed to selected schoolchildren. Arrangements were also made to provide several fans to Delft Hospital.
The event was organized under the leadership of Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekaran. Attendees included Member of Parliament Kumaran, Divisional Secretary Nivedika Kadeesan, Provincial Director of Education (Islands) T. Jadanasundaram, and Directors of the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, Mr. Dulip Somarathna, Mr. Kapila Senarath, and Mr. Dasun Wijesekera.
Approximately 11,100 people live on Jaffna’s Delft Island, where fishing is the main source of income, supplemented by tourism as another income stream.
The DSI Group of Companies, Singhagiri Group, and "Gunadamin Elephant House" programme have partnered with the Clean Sri Lanka secretariat to support these community welfare activities.
