A meeting of the businesspersons participating in the ‘Dream Destination’ project, aimed at renovating 100 railway stations, was held on 23rd July at the Presidential Secretariat. The session was chaired by Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President.
Dr. Kumanayake emphasized the importance of unity in national development and highlighted that the current Government has established an inclusive platform where everyone can contribute towards this goal. Furthermore, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the business community members who have voluntarily come forward to support the ‘Dream Destination’ project.
This initiative is being carried out as a collaborative effort between the Government, the private sector, and the public, to rebrand the country’s railway stations with a fresh identity aligned with international standards.
The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, together with the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ program and private sector partners, are jointly working to renovate these 100 railway stations.
The main objective of the project is to develop a clean, attractive, and passenger-friendly railway station network throughout the country, ensuring the safety and comfort of all users, including those with special needs.
NIO Engineering is generously providing voluntary design expertise for the railway stations, while the necessary financial support for construction is being contributed by Sri Lankan businesspersons. The project is scheduled for completion within six months.
Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Mr. Kapila Janaka Bandara, Additional Secretary to the President, Mr. S.P.C. Sugeeshwara, along with several business representatives, were also present at this significant occasion.
