Installation of Treatment Systems to Improve Sewage and Solid Waste Management Activities Conducted by Local Government Institutions

The lack of adequate sewage treatment centers has become an obstacle to providing comprehensive sewage and solid waste management services island-wide. As a result, in some instances, collected waste is improperly discharged into the environment. Under the National Policy on Waste Management, the need to develop the necessary infrastructure for sewage and solid waste management has been identified. Accordingly, utilizing financial allocations to the Clean Sri Lanka program, an amount of 200 million rupees has been designated to construct mechanized sewage treatment centers in selected Local Government Institutions. The proposal presented by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government to undertake these constructions has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
