As part of the "Clean Sri Lanka" affiliated project "Dream Destination," the renovation of Narahenpita Railway Station commenced on 27th September.
Narahenpita Railway Station, a noteworthy stop on the Kelani Valley line, is situated between Kota Road and Kirulapona stations. Located 5.06 km from Colombo and 3.72 meters above sea level, the station features two main platforms and a single ticket counter.
Serving numerous government, semi-government, and private institutions such as the Labour Department, Department of Motor Traffic, Colombo District Secretariat, and Survey Department, the station handles a considerable number of daily commuters.
To enhance passenger comfort, renovation works are underway with full support from the private sector and technical assistance from NIO Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. The improvements include constructing a pedestrian overpass across the platforms, renovating the roof of the second platform, upgrading sanitary facilities, and installing comfortable seating for passengers.
The event was attended by prominent public figures, including Hon. MP Lakmali Hemachandra, Colombo Deputy Mayor Hon. Hemanta Weerakon, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Prof. Kapila C.K. Perera, General Manager of the Department of Railways Mr. Ravindra Pathmapriya, NIO Engineering member engineer Stanley Moremada, MAGA Engineering CEO Mr. Piyadasa Madarasinghe, as well as key officials from the Ministry and the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat.
