Welcome to Clean Sri Lanka

‘Seiri Week’ to Dispose of Unnecessary Items in State Institutions Commences Tomorrow

With the aim of enhancing efficiency and productivity in public service, the government has decided to implement a special programme called ‘Seiri Week’ under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national initiative. This programme, targeting all state institutions, will be carried out from September 1st to 4th.

The main objective of this initiative is to create a peaceful, hygienic, and well-organized work environment for public officials to perform their duties effectively. The term ‘Seiri,’ belonging to the five principles of efficiency, refers to identifying necessary and unnecessary items and removing the redundant ones. Accordingly, the programme prioritizes the removal of accumulated unnecessary materials in limited office spaces, ensuring optimal use of available areas.

According to a circular issued by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government to all secretaries of ministries, departments, and heads of government institutions, during the week, two hours in each morning  must be devoted to cleaning and organizing the institution premises. Attention will also be given to maintaining both the internal and external premises of the institutions, including entrance pathways and surroundings, with special consideration for facilities required by people with disabilities.

Furthermore, instructions have been given to properly dispose of unusable inventory, old motor vehicles, and files as per established procedures.

The ‘Seiri Week’ is not intended as a one-time event but aims to establish a continuous and systematic process of maintaining a clean environment. Heads of all institutions have been further advised to appoint an officer responsible for ensuring the sustained implementation of this practice.
