The 22nd edition of the “Take-Care” Road Safety Programme, held under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, was successfully conducted at Maharagama Central College on 26th August 2025. The program aims to raise awareness among schoolchildren about the importance of road safety and promote responsible behavior to reduce traffic accidents.
Organized with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka Police, Department of Motor Traffic, ITN , and supported by the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat, the programme is part of a nationwide effort to cultivate a culture of safe and disciplined road use from a young age.
During the event, students participated in interactive sessions focused on traffic regulations, pedestrian safety, and the dangers of reckless driving. The initiative also emphasized the role of school road safety clubs in fostering continuous education and advocacy for safer roads.
The "Take-Care" campaign, which has been rolled out across multiple education zones, aims to engage over 50,000 students islandwide, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to become responsible road users and advocates for road safety in their communities.
Authorities highlighted that road accidents remain a critical public health issue in Sri Lanka, with many incidents being preventable through enhanced awareness and behavioral changes.
The programme at Maharagama Central College marks another vital step in the government’s comprehensive strategy under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative to reduce road fatalities and injuries while promoting a safer and healthier environment for all citizens.
